Photos Depicting Elder Abuse

The following photographic examples are intended to help you learn how to recognize elder abuse.

Bedsores, aka Pressure Sores, Pressure Ulcers

  • Pressure sores on the buttocks of a neglected, bedbound older person
  • Pressure sore on the heel of a bedbound elder neglect victim. This was caused by constant pressure of the heel against a surface such as a bed.
  • A pressure ulcer in the buttocks region embedded with feces. Note the clothing, bedding and pads at the scene of a decedent.

Bruising

  • Chest bruising from multiple beatings over time on elder abuse victim. Note bruises in unusual places and in varying degrees of healing.
  • Face, neck and chest bruising.
